Molly Treves
This is Molly, she is a survivor of neuroblastoma a common type of childhood cancer.
Molly became very ill in July 2005 and was diagnosed with neuroblastoma stage 5. Despite being given a 20% chance of survival, Molly responded well to the gruelling treatment. She was at times critically ill and needed to spend almost 9 months in hospital.
She had 8 courses of chemotherapy which left her with low immunity and many infections. She then had her stem cells removed followed by a 7 and a half hour operation to remove the tumour which originated from her left kidney. After further high dose chemotherapy Molly had her stem cells replaced to kick start her immune system. Radiotherapy followed, with the 13th and final session being on her 3rd birthday. The final part of her treatment was oral retinoic acid which Molly had for 8 months.
Molly has now been in remission for 3 and a half years and each day we feel so lucky as so many children do not survive. She has severe hearing loss and renal impairment, both side effects of chemotherapy. Molly likes to be as active as possible despite generalised muscle weakness and lethargy. She loves swimming and playing at the park with her big brother Sam.
Molly loves all things pink and sparkly and is Disney mad. She likes to paint her nails and enjoys arts and crafts. She would like to be an explorer when she gets bigger.
We have launched this site to raise awareness of neuroblastoma. Molly would like to raise some money for Families against neuroblastoma (FAN) who support children and families affected by this terrible disease. It is Molly's dream to swim with dolphins in Florida and she aims to raise enough to make another child's dream come true also. Molly wants to do all she can to help other children beat Neuroblastoma just like she did!
