Kelli Smith
Kelli was born on 2nd January 2009 at 2:35am, healthy, happy and perfect. I instantly fell in love with her and my world was complete. When Kelli was just 3 months old she started to suffer from terrible constipation. One day Kelli was in so much pain she sounded like she was being tortured and I knew it wasn't right when I couldn't calm her down. I was so scared for her, I decided to take her to hospital. I'm glad I did.
The doctors felt a "mass" in her abdomen straight away, and after several scans and various tests it was confirmed that Kelli had Neuroblastoma. They staged her at 4s initially, telling me that the cancer would most likely go away on it's own- they planned to watch and wait for up to 6 weeks. Just one week later another scan confirmed the cancer was growing too fast and Kelli's treatment began.
After several rounds of gruelling chemotherapy, Kelli was still left with Neuroblastoma in her liver but she was well enough to start nursery! Her confidence soon grew with people and her little personality started to blossom! Kelli loves to sing and dance and has a great love of music. The Cancer couldn't hold back her determination to get on with life and Kelli soon learned to count to 7 and say lots of other words, in French! So advanced was her thirst for learning she was bumped up to pre-school a year early! Then, a year on from finishing frontline treatment, we received the news that the Cancer had gone, Kelli was given the all clear, we were over the moon!
Sadly however, our happiness was to be short lived. Kelli started to become symptomatic and we have recently found out that she has 3 new lesions in her abdomen.
There is no treatment protocol in the UK for relapsed Neuroblastoma, however there are options available abroad. Sadly these treatments could cost in excess of £500,000. We know this is a huge price tag, but we have seen other children in Kelli's situation reach their target and go on to receive the life saving treatment they needed, and it has worked! Kelli is still smiling and just wants to go back to school, your help could make that happen. Please, please help us give Kelli, our precious, beautiful, clever, funny, happy little girl the chance to live.
Thankyou! xxx
